Prescribing Reports
This section of
the PCT Prescribing Report titled ‘Prescribing Guidance and
Discussion Points’ examines an area of prescribing which has
been identified as a current area of concern or driver of growth
for primary care. The report covers areas such as DH policy statements,
National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidance
and implementation of National Service Frameworks (NSFs).
The PCT Prescribing
Report is provided electronically to all PCTs on a quarterly basis.
Other sections of the report compare and measure PCT prescribing
performance against Strategic Health Authority and National comparators
in order to determine and manage their overall performance.
PMD
PMD shows the cost
of prescribing, to enable management of the drugs element of unified
budgets.
National PMD Statements
are produced each month and show:
- Prescribing
budget for the current financial year (not shown in April or May)
- Total monthly
spend
- Cumulative
spend year to date (April to current month)
- Forecast of
the actual under/over spend for the year (not shown in April or
May)
- The number
of dispensing days in the month and year to date
The annual statement
produced for March shows the actual expenditure for the financial
year.
Figures are based
on the 'actual' cost of drugs prescribed. 'Actual' cost is calculated
by deducting the National Average Discount from the basic price of
the prescription items, then adding an allowance for the containers
in which the drugs are dispensed.
National
Prescribing Monitoring Documents (PMD) - England
PD1
The PD1 Report shows statistical fee based data. This
relates to the total NHS prescriptions dispensed
or personally administered in England which were
submitted to the NHSBSA Prescription Pricing Division
in a particular month.
This information is broken down
into the areas below as the fees for each differ.
