Part XVIIIA - Drugs, Medicines and Other Substances not to be ordered under a General Medical Services Contract

XVIIIA

Part XVIIIA reproduces Schedule 1 to the National Health Service (General Medical Services Contracts) (Prescription of Drugs etc.) Regulations 2004.

Note: Some of the references to products listed in Schedule 1 to the National Health Service (General Medical Services Contracts)(Prescription of Drugs etc.) Regulations 2004, and reproduced below in Part XVIIIA, are to their British Approved Name (BAN). The list has not been updated to reflect changes to the legislation which now requires that generic medicines should be referred to by their recommended International Non-proprietary Name (rINN), rather than their BAN. For the purposes of this list, reference to a generic product's British Approved Name also includes any corresponding generic medicine which is now known by the recommended International Non-proprietary Name. For example, there is an entry in Part XVIIIA of the Drug Tariff for Guaiphenesin Syrup (any strength), but Guaifenesin is now the rINN. Neither product should be ordered under a general medical services contract. Appropriate amendments to schedule 1 to the National Health Service (General Medical Services Contracts)(Prescription of Drugs etc.) Regulations 2004 will be made in due course.
