Regular users of our site may have seen the announcement that we were developing a new website based on the needs of our customers. The new website is live as of 1 December and from 5 December you will be automatically redirected to it.

Increase in Essential Small Pharmacy LPS Payments
The recent payment awarded by the Department of Health to Essential Small Pharmacies will be shown on the Schedule of Contractor Payments as 'LPS(ESP)(amendment)(No2) directions 2008' under 'Details of other amounts authorised'.

Correction to November edition of Impact
Contractors should note that the hard copy of the November edition of Impact has a mistake on page 3. The charge status should read E A, not C as published. The online PDF has been corrected. We are sorry if this has caused any confusion.

PPD Open Days
The NHS Business Services Authority will be holding more open days in 2009 for dispensing contractors to visit its prescription processing offices to see how we process prescriptions.

Compensation Arrangements: January - May 2008
The Department of Health and PSNC have agreed compensation arrangements for any error due to NHSBSA PPD system failure and as a concession for contractors who may not have been aware of flaws in their own business processes for checking declarations of exemption on prescription forms, for the period from January - May 2008. Prescription processing offices closure plan
As part of our programme to bring in our new processing system we are consolidating our existing nine processing sites into three regional sites based in the North East (Newcastle), North West (Horwich) and Yorkshire (Wakefield). We have already started a programme to close our other sites. These are Bolton, Durham, Liverpool, Manchester, Preston, Sheffield and West Bromwich.

Form to report cases of switching
Please click here to download a form to tell us about prescriptions you believe have been incorrectly switched. The information you send us on this form will be used to assess the impact of changes in PPD processes in checking exemption declarations on the number of forms that are switched and will inform negotiations between the PSNC and the Department of Health on any arrangements to address contractors concerns with increased levels of switching.

Controlled Drug Requisitions
From 1st January 2008, pharmacy contractors will be required to submit requisitions used for the supply of schedule 2 and 3 controlled drugs to the NHSBSA PPD for audit purposes following changes to the Misuse of Drug Regulations.

Changes to Private Prescription Submissions
The Medicines (Sale or Supply) (Miscellaneous Provisions) Regulations 1980 have been amended to remove the requirement for dispensing contractors to retain dispensed private controlled drug prescriptions for two years. From the 1st of September 2007 dispensing contractors should submit original Private Controlled Drug prescriptions for schedule 2 or 3 CDs to the Prescription Pricing Division.

Initial implementer sites for Release 2 of the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS)
Following the Department of Health (DH) and NHS Connecting for Health (NHS CFH) invitation for Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) to express an interest in becoming initial implementers for Release 2 of the Electronic Prescription Service, over one third responded.
