Non Medical Prescribers

The Prescriber code referred to in the following procedures is a code which is supplied by the appropriate regulatory body (NMC, HPC etc).

Prescriptions issued by non medical prescribers are processed by the PPD and ultimately prescribing codes are allocated to the correct prescribing budgets.

The PCT will advise the PPD of a change to a non medical prescribers details by completing the relevant Notification of Non-Medical Prescriber Amendments form (copies of the forms can be found on the PPD web site www.epact.ppa.nhs.uk/ppa/cc342167_document_rev2.doc).

The following details must be completed on each Notification of Non-Medical Prescriber Amendments form:

  • PCT name
  • PCT code
  • Printed name/Signature of authorised officer
  • Telephone number of authorised officer - in case of query.

In order to avoid transposition errors and the subsequent problems incurred, it has been agreed with the Department of Health that the Notification of Non-Medical Prescriber Amendments form(s) should be completed electronically and emailed to Prescription.Information@ppa.nhs.uk.

  1. New Prescriber to your organisation
  2. Prescriber working for additional Practice/PCT/CNPC
  3. Change of surname
  4. Change of prescriber code (nurses only)
  5. Change of qualification (nurses only)
  6. Prescriber leaving Practice/PCT/CNPC
