| Repeat Dispensing
(last updated
22/03/2006)
Introduction
Repeat dispensing was first introduced as a pilot scheme
in pathfinder sites across England in 2002. These arrangements
make it easier for patients with chronic conditions
to obtain repeat prescriptions, speeding up services
and relieving pressure on GP surgeries. It is also an
opportunity to make better use of pharmacists’
skills by helping patients get the most out of their
medicines and reduce waste of medicines. This scheme
is now an essential service within the new community
pharmacy contract which came into force on 1st April
2005. The repeat dispensing scheme is now available
across all Primary Care Trusts in England.
The
information made available here will help both prescribers
and dispensers understand the processes involved in
the repeat dispensing service. This includes the production
and submission of repeat dispensing forms, the payment
process and fees involved, and the reporting systems
available to assist in monitoring the volume of repeat
forms issued.

could be explained more clearly, or there is any other
