Search

The Search facility makes it easy to locate data in the BNF or Organisation data dimensions by supplying appropriate search criteria.
Please note that the Search functionality has no dependence upon the Data Selector - changing the selections will have no effect upon this screen.

Search
This selection list determines whether the items being searched for are from the Primary Care or BNF lists. The item selected defines the search options available in the Where and Level selection lists.
Radio buttons below the search selection list determine whether the results returned by the search should:

• Start with - items that begin with the keyword will be returned. A '%' can be used as a wildcard to replace keyword characters. For example 'ANT%' will satisfy the requirement of at least 4 characters in the keyword and will return all items starting with 'ANT'. The search is not case sensitive so upper and lower case matches will be returned. The '%' wildcard changes the behaviour of the 'Starts with' search to be like the 'Contains'. If the wildcard is used, the number of matches may be too large, in this case the search will warn you that the search is invalid and ask you to narrow down the search.
  
  
• Contain - items will be returned if the keyword can be found anywhere within the items description. The '%' wildcard can be included in the keyword to broaden the search. For example the keyword 'AN%TE' will return all items that contain 'AN' and 'TE' separated by 0 or more characters. If the wildcard is used, the number of matches may be too large, in this case the search will warn you that the search is invalid and ask you to narrow down the search.
  
  
• Equal - only items that exactly match the keyword will be returned. Wildcard symbols cannot be used with this search.

Where
The field in the Primary Care or BNF lists in which the specified keyword will be searched for.

Level
The level of Primary Care or BNF dimension at which the search should be carried out.

Keyword(s)
The field where the word or words to be searched for are entered. The search button will remain disabled until this field is populated. The keyword must contain a minimum of 4 characters when searching the BNF.

Search Button
This button will start the actual search process using the specified settings. It will remain disabled until the search criteria has been provided.

Search Results
When the search process has been completed, the results will be displayed as a list. The buttons below this list can be used to add either some or all of the selected items to the Selected Items list. The number of items contained in the list is displayed next to the Search Result list title.

Selected Items
This list will display all items that have been selected from the Search Results list for one or more searches. It is possible to build a list of Selected Items from multiple searches by selecting some or all of the Search Results for each search. Items added to the Selected Items list from previous searches will remain in the list until they are specifically removed. It is not possible to include items from Primary Care lists and BNF lists in the same selection.

Select All
This button can be used to transfer all of the items displayed in the Search Result list across to the Selected Items list. The button is disabled if there are no items in the Search Result list.

Select Highlighted
This button can be used to transfer a selection of the items displayed in the Search Result list across to the Selected Items list. Only items that are selected on the screen i.e. highlighted will be transferred. Individual items can be selected by 'mouse clicking' the item. Several contiguous items can be selected by 'mouse clicking' the first item to be transferred and holding down the shift key and 'mouse clicking' the last item to be transferred. Selections can also be made using the keyboard, using the cursor keys to navigate up and down the list of items and pressing Ctrl-Enter to make a selection. When the Select Highlighted button is pressed the items will be removed from the Search Results list and added to the Selected Items list. The button is disabled if there are no items in the Search Result list.

Deselect Highlighted
This button can be used to transfer a selection of the items displayed in the Selected Items list across to the Search Results list. Only items that are selected on the screen i.e. highlighted will be transferred. Individual items can be selected by 'mouse clicking' the item. Several contiguous items can be selected by 'mouse clicking' the first item to be transferred and holding down the shift key and 'mouse clicking' the last item to be transferred. Selections can also be made using the keyboard, using the cursor keys to navigate up and down the list of items and pressing Ctrl-Enter to make a selection. When the Select Highlighted button is pressed the items will be removed from the Selected Items list and added to the Search Result list. Deselect All
This button can be used to transfer all of the items displayed in the Selected Items list across to the Search Result list. The button is disabled if there are no items in the Selected Items list.

Invert Selections
There is an Invert Selection button below the Search Results list and another below the Selected Items list. Each button applies the same process to the appropriate list. Pressing the button results in de-selection of all previously selected items and the previously deselected items will be selected. The button will only be enabled if there are items in the appropriate list.

Save selections as Tag
This button allows the Selected Items list to be saved as a Tag for future use. This will remove the need to search for the same items each time they are required.
