Nurse Prescribing Information for a Health Authority

Information relating to nurse prescribing within a Health Authority (HA) is available in the following information systems to authorised users:

• ePACT.net
  
• Prescribing Toolkit
  
• EPACT
  
• PACT
• PMD
  

ePACT.net for HAs covers 36 months of prescribing data. It includes information about practice and community nurses' prescribing in the practice figures.

Prescribing Toolkit covers three years of data and includes:

• prescribing by practice and community nurses in the practice figures
  
• pre-defined Nurse Prescribing Comparators, which provide information on the cost of prescribing from the Nurse Prescribing Formulary by nurses and GPs.

EPACT provides information on nurse prescribing in a number of formats depending on the level of data used. At HA level all nurse prescribing is included in the figures and can also be split into community nurse and practice nurse totals. At CNPC level the total figure for all community nurse prescribing for the contract is available. At practice level the total figure for all practice nurse prescribing is available.

PACT provides nurse prescribing information in the PACT Standard Report, the PACT Nurse Formulary Report and the PACT Catalogue.

The PACT Standard Report is produced automatically each quarter and is available monthly on request at the following levels:

• GP
  
• Practice
  
• Health Authority
  

Prescribing by all nurses is included in the HA totals. The back page of the report shows separate totals for practice and community nurses. The prescribing by PCT nurses is included in the practice nurse totals.
The PACT Nurse Formulary Report is available at HA level and provides a high level breakdown on prescribing by community nurse, practice nurse and GP prescribing from the Nurse Prescribing Formulary (NPF). The Nurse Formulary Summary report provides a more detailed breakdown by prescriber type and practice.

To support the PACT Nurse Formulary Report, a PACT Catalogue is also available for:

• an individual practice nurse
  
• all practice nurses prescribing within a Health Authority
  
• all community nurses prescribing within a Community Nurse Prescribing Contract (CNPC) where the HA is the commissioning body
  
• prescribing by a specific nurse within a CNPC where the HA is the commissioning body.

Prescribing Monitoring Documents (PMD) provide financial information about prescribing costs against prescribing budgets.
The PMD (HA) Statement is issued automatically each month. This report contains a separate total for all CNPCs commissioned by the HA.
The PMD Community Nurse Prescribing Contract (CNPC) Statement is issued automatically each month to the HA that has commissioned a CNPC. The contract provider may be a Community Trust or a PCT.

On request the PPA will provide a Practice Identification Report which lists all practices within a HA showing practice code, address and telephone number. This information is required to enable a Community Nurse to complete the correct patient practice identifier on prescriptions.
