Community nurse

For the purposes of the PPA, a community nurse is a qualified independent nurse prescriber, who is employed by a PCT, to prescribe for patients of practices within the PCT.

The nurse may be qualified to prescribe from the District Nurse and Health Visitor Prescribers’ Formulary or the Nurse Prescribers’ Extended Formulary or as an independent / supplementary prescriber.

This is the amount paid for container costs for items prescribed by the practice as shown on the PDPI and PMD practice statement. That is the allowances in the Drug Tariff multiplied by the number of containers.
